Shopping in Malaysia
Shopper's paradise- Malaysia where offers you a true adventure of discovery. Located at the crossroads of Asia, it presents visitors the best that the region has. It offers you all you expect from shopping: rare treasures of the orient, branded designer goods, and even intricate local handicarfts. The malaysia Ringgit exchange is comparatively lower, thus shopping prices in Malaysia are competitive for most of visitors.there are plenty of choices for you to go shopping: one-stop multi-story shopping mall, sidewalk stalls, bazaars, and night market (pasar malam). There is certainly no shortage of places to shop.Malaysia's tax havens are Pulau Langkawi and Labuan. Duty free areas are also found at Rantau Panjang and Pengkalan Kubur in Kelantan, and Padang Besar and Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.
An interesting mix of duty free shops can also be found at city centers and airports in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang. The things that are uniquely Malaysia are handicrafts of local origin. They range from intricate silver, brass, and pewter items to pottery and rattan. The bold designs and dazzling colors of Malaysian Batik set it apart from others within the region.
Kuala Lumpur is a shopping mecca for clothes, electronics, computer goods and much more, with very competitive prices by any standard. Traditional Malaysian fabrics (batik) are a popular souvenir. The cheapest place to easily buy ethnic souvenirs (especially wood-based) is in Kuching, East Malaysia, and the most expensive place is in the major, posh KL shopping centres.
In general shops open from 10.30AM till 9.30PM in the large cities. They open and close for business earlier in the smaller towns and rural areas.
