The name – Lou wai lou or House after house – comes from a Song dynasty poem, and it's the oldest restaurant operating in China since 1838. It has a perfect location – right on the northern shore of the West Lake and you can have a long stroll around the mesmerizing lake before or after your “culinary treasure”. Their speciality is sweet and sour carp. And their Beggar's Chicken is also awesome – the chicken is braised in herb wrapped up in lotus leaf. The meat is aromatic and melting in your mouth. Service is bit lousy but food is good.

Tips: The restaurant does not accept reservation, so you'd better to go between lunch and dinner. And you can request to be seated at the second floor where beautiful scenery can be enjoyed through the huge windows facing the lake.
